Some on a post I made last night still haven't shown up in my inbox ::sigh::
It's a very special birthday today; Artifact Storage Room 3 turns one.
To mark the occasion, people are doing fic, art, etc based around the room, an anniversary, or a birthday and here's mine. It may come as a shock, but it's a birthday fic with no spanking in it :-)
Many thanks to
wesleysgirl for beta reading and making it better, as always ::hugs::

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.
elmyraemilie gave me these five words: Heyer, Wodehouse, Sayers, Heinlein, Wentworth
Obviously, they're all authors, and the interesting thing is that all but one (Heinlein) are favorites of my mother as well as me.
Heyer.
Elegant, readable, deeply romantic, her books are ones I've read over and over. I return to them with the same satisfaction I get from sinking into a hot bath or sliding between clean, cool sheets. They're beautifully written and led me to Austen, another favorite.
She wrote three sorts of books; the historicals, detectives, and contemporary novels (for her: 1920s). I love the historicals mostly, while preferring the broadly Regency timeline ones to the medievial or Elizabethan -- The Great Roxhythe, a 17th century one, is dry as dust, if incredibly slashy. I remember finding it in a used bookshop in Portsmouth for a few pounds, grabbing it quickly before it melted away, and then bouncing up and down clapping my hands as David smiled, bemused.
I enjoy the detectives a lot and of the four contemporaries, I own one (Barren Corn) and loathed it so much that I didn't bother searching for the others.
Wodehouse
The man who taught me to love golf without ever having done more than play pitch and putt. His golf stories are pure heaven and I adore them. I also confess to a crush on Psmith.
Sometimes, his convolued plots get too much and my head aches, but overall, much love.
I might :;coughs abashedly:; have written Jeeves/Wooster slash... Jeeves Lends a Hand
Sayers
Peter is pure hotness at times, I have to say and some of the short stories are decidedly creepy. I'm a sucker for university stories so Gaudy Night is one of my favorites. How Harriet kept saying 'no' to Peter, I don't know...
Sayers, for me, is in there with all the other Golden Agers and I love them all; Christie, Allingham, Marsh, Tey...
Which leads me into
Wentworth
Patricia Wentworth is often either unheard of, or dismissed as a Christie imitator but Miss Silver and Miss Marple aren't much alike, besides a love of knitting. Wentworth's plots aren't complex and she's definitely a cosy writer for the most part, but there are times when she raises a chill and I love the world she's created.
And again, I wrote some slash...Saved By Miss Silver
Finally, Heinlein.
When we got our first computer in 1997, the very first thing I searched for was Robert Heinlein. From that search, I discovered alt.fan.heinlein (and some of my friends from there are on my f-list even now which is a joy). Afh is where I learned to fight online and some of the flame wars and kerfuffles left a more innocent me reeling, but I grew a thicker skin and had a wonderful time there. The discussions were second to none for their intelligence, wit and insight. That led to me meeting Ginny Heinlein, a truly amazing lady whom it was an honor to call a friend. I miss her.
I'm not, perhaps, as into Heinlein as I was; I used to love his books with an uncritical fervor and now, maybe, I'm a little more analytical -- but I reread his juveniles recently and oh boy, could he tell a story! I think if we'd ever met, we would have argued fiercely about a lot, but it's a conversation I'd have enjoyed.
Books were and are part of my life in the way that oxygen is. These five authors are ones whose books have given me a lot of pleasure.

Two hour finale tonight, so it starts at nine, not ten...
Between this and Torchwood, I'll have no nails left :-)
I'll have to watch tonight's Torchwood tomorrow (David's in Toronto at the Judas Priest concert) but that's worked out pretty well as I'd have had to have watched HI tonight and this way we can watch both episodes of Torchwood back to back, no waiting. The waiting between episodes is killing me and it's only 24 hours ::whimpers:;
I'd say don't spoil me, but I know you wouldn't :;trusts::

Did anyone else watch it? I found it entertaining with a nicely flawed lead and an appealing quirkiness.

I saw on one of my Yahoo groups that Black Lace is to cease publishing erotica after 2010. (Article in The Guardian here).
That's sad. Black Lace started up 16 years ago and I well remember seeing them in W H Smiths and buying them with this heady sense of being a woman of the world, owning my sexuality and all that jazz. I bought the m/f ones -- didn't know slash existed back then -- and I still own a few of them, though it's been years since I read the ones I bought all that time ago. I just glanced over them and winced at some of the decidedly purple prose mixed in with overly clinical names for body parts, but they had some pretty kinky smut in there too and they were definitely groundbreaking; erotica for women in a completely mainstream high street shop, displayed high up, sure, but openly.

Here's another bunch. It's very, very hard keeping it down to even 20 but I'm trying :-)
The shower scene ones are blurry because that's the effect they were going for.

I just bought Rainier cherries, at a dollar a kilo more because, well, Rainier is so TS connected in my head.
David mocked me muchly but agrees they're very sweet and interesting looking; yellowish pink, not dark red.
I'm such a fangirl... ::grins::

I haven't had time to scan in the two TS scripts I got for my birthday (Sweet Science and Rogue); there were, sadly, no real changes from the filmed script so it went to the end of my to-do list. In fact, Rogue is missing that great opening scene where Jim drinks the spoiled milk so there's less, not more :-(
There was one bit, though; the great scene between Simon and Blair in Sweet Science. We lose some of the words, but gain a hug -- and we lose the 'he needs you' line.

This is Shawn Ashmore looking cute. I can think of some other people I could stand to see featured with a flag in Cosmopolitan....
ETA He plays Iceman in the X-Men movies.

Is it just me, or is the new Caramilk comercial absolutely smutty as hell? All those waving tentacles and faces in interesting places and the wiggling, writhing...whew.

We will never, ever be able to get our inbox back, but we've rescued everything else from the old computer. The problem was that one of the Windows files or drivers was missing (do not ask me how that happened) and so the boot up couldn't complete. So David took the hard drive out and attached it with this belt type thingummy to the CD drive of the spare computer we were using and presto! Our computer!
So we salvaged loads of stuff and now we'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a couple of things we'd previously purchased that are now demanding a registration number that was lost in the shuffle. I think we might have needed to do that anyway on some stuff as this computer is a 64 bit one.
And the new computer (OMG, the graphics are so clear!) has a working, fancier version of Windows Movie Maker, so I can vid again (Sony Vegas jumps through hoops for Eleanor, who mastered it in a week or so and can do vid effects that make me blink, but it is incomprehensible to me).
It's all good, yes, it is.
I've started work on the Point of Contact sequel for Moonridge too, and it's fun getting back into that 'verse. It feels weird not having anything much to do after doing so much writing this year, but it's nice to relax -- before the edits arrive :-)

First time posting from the new, empty, huge computer. The screen is so darn wide. Wow.
I've set up Firefox and email and given Eleanor one of her own and now I'm going to recreate years of bookmarks and try to keep them tidy :-)
The new computer has a 23 inch monitor, Intel 2 quad core, I TB hard drive, 6GB RAM, 64 bit something and we can have both external hard drives plugged in and accessible at the same time, yay.
The old one had an 80GB hard drive and wheezed along slowly, poor pet.
It doesn't like our printer though...too old for it. How snobby can you get? Tchah.
And just to show not everything is getting more expensive, it cost $1000 LESS than our old system, bought seven years ago.

Just got E from school, safe and sound after her week in Washington and she was at the White House gates when Obama came out and he rolled down the window of his limo and waved at them!
How cool is that?
She had lots of fun but looks exhausted, poor pet.
